Fundraising dinner for Afghan women and children

Seats are still available for the 12th annual fundraising dinner of AWAKEN (Afghan Women’s And Kids’ Education & Necessities) on Saturday, April 5. Doors open at 5:30 pm at the Unitarian Universalist Church, 4800 W. Bradford Dr.

The evening includes authentic Afghan cuisine, Afghan rugs and other items for sale, a silent auction and an update on AWAKEN’s work over the past year. The featured speakers will be former Peace Corps workers in Afghanistan.

Tickets are $35 for adults, $25 for university and high school students, and $15 for children 12 and under. Guests may also purchase a table to seat 6 for $200. Reservations are requested by March 28. (Twenty-five seats will be held for purchase at the door.)

The evening’s proceeds will help maintain AWAKEN’s medical clinic, its women’s vocational training and literacy program and educational programs for children and youth in the Nangarhar Province of Afghanistan.
