Education in the Age of Globalization

featuring Yong Zhao

The 2014 John R. Emens Distinguished Professor
Monday, April 21 at 7 p.m.
Emens Auditorium
Free and open to the public

With a message intended for teachers, school administrators, and
parents, Zhao will connect current research on schools and learning to
critical issues in education reform:

  • Understanding why the perceived weaknesses of American education are actually its strengths
  • Harnessing the entrepreneurial spirit
  • Fostering student autonomy and leadership
  • Expanding the definition of success beyond math and reading test scores
  • Developing global partners and resources
  • Empowering teachers and learners with new technologies

Zhao is the director of the Institute for Global and Online Education at the University of Oregon. His book, World Class Learners: Educating Creative and Entrepreneurial Students, has earned numerous awards and is published by Corwin Press in association with the National Association of Elementary School Principals (NAESP).
