Ball State University’s Building Better Communities has received a three-year, $200,000 grant from the Ball Brothers Foundation to establish the Building Better Neighborhoods Initiative. This Muncie-focused initiative will provide coordinated expertise and resources from the university to support neighborhood development efforts through the Muncie Action Plan and Delaware County’s VISION 2016 economic development plan.

“Ball State has a long history of working collaboratively with Muncie leaders and residents through student-driven immersive learning projects, research endeavors, professional training and strategic planning,” said John Fallon, Ball State’s Associate Vice President of Economic Development and Community Engagement. “This new initiative will allow us to better coordinate our efforts for maximum impact and ensure alignment with economic development activities already underway in our community.”

Ball Brothers Foundation was founded in 1926 to promote and carry out philanthropic efforts in the state of Indiana, concentrated in East Central Indiana. The Ball Brothers grant, with additional financial support from the university, will fund a new administrative position within Building Better Communities to assess current neighborhood efforts, inventory expertise and resources at Ball State and other community/non-profit organizations, streamline processes to deploy resources and evaluate impact at the neighborhood level.

Building Better Communities is Ball State’s front door to community partners, providing comprehensive services to business, community, and economic development partners by connecting them with university experts.
