Dear Students, Faculty, Staff, and Alumni,

Do you own a smartphone? If so, we'd like to ask you for your help in a research project we are conduct. We are studying how text entry (including texting, typing, voice-to-text, read-aloud, autocorrect, and more) varies across smartphone devices and their owners. This project will provide us with knowledge as to how smartphone users interact with their devices and why they choose particular devices over others.

All you have to do is take a brief, 5-minute survey. You must be 18 years of age and own a smartphone device that is connected to a cellular network and/or involves a data plan in order to participate. We will also be conducting brief follow-up interviews, and you may opt into these interviews in the survey.

This study has been reviewed by Ball State’s Institutional Review Board (527933-1). Participation in
this research study is completely voluntary, and all questions are optional. All information you provide us is entirely confidential. If you have any questions, you may contact our Principal Investigator, Rae Hines ( or our Faculty Advisor, Eva Grouling Snider (
