I'm trying to unsubscribe but getting an error message, what do I do?

Your Internet connection may be preventing you from completing the process. Please wait a few minutes and try again. If you remain unsuccessful, contact the Technology HelpDesk for assistance by visiting www.bsu.edu/helpdesk where you may review the IT knowledge base or submit a ticket to request assistance. You may also contact the Technology HelpDesk by calling  765-285-1517 or stopping by the Tech Center, located in Bracken Library room 101.

Once I receive an alert, where can I receive additional information about an emergency?

Ball State's home page at www.bsu.edu is the official source for information in an emergency. Text messages will usually direct you to the home page for more information as it is available.

What if I'm signed up but am having trouble receiving alerts?

Refer back to the Manage your subscription page and check the following:

What if my service provider is not included in your list of mobile providers?

The vendor that provides the university's text messaging determines supported providers. While this is outside the university's control, please contact the Technology HelpDesk by submitting a ticket at www.bsu.edu/helpdesk or by calling 765-285-1517 to log your provider so that we may send feedback to the vendor.

What type of alerts can I expect to receive?

The system delivers texts for alerts that would provide immediate and specific actions that students, faculty, and staff should take to protect themselves from imminent danger on campus. This system is also used when classes are canceled or the campus is closed. The system is also tested 3 to 4 times per year.

Who can sign up for emergency texts?

To register for Ball State's emergency text notification system, you must be a Ball State student or employee with an active username and email account.

Why have I been notified that I will no longer receive emergency text messages?

The university only sends emergency text messages to subscribers with active Ball State user accounts. If your affiliation with Ball State changes (for example, because you are no longer a student or employee), your subscription to the emergency text messaging system will be ended as part of deactivating your Ball State user account. If you believe you have received this message in error, please contact the Technology HelpDesk by submitting a ticket at www.bsu.edu/helpdesk or by calling 765-285-1517.

Why is my phone listed on the "Manage emergency text" page if I haven't registered yet?

Your number appearing on the page does not mean you are subscribed to the system. The university may already have your mobile phone number on file if you listed it previously in completing paperwork with the registrar or bursar. Please complete all steps listed to ensure you are successfully subscribed.

Will I receive an alert when the emergency in question is over or needs updated?

Additional alerts are delivered on a case-by-case basis. Once you have been notified of an emergency, you can expect a second text to be delivered to you when the all clear has been issued.
