The Great Lakes Association of Colleges and University Housing Officers (GLACUHO) recently recognized Ball State University with its Outstanding Commitment to Sustainability Award. GLACUHO is a regional branch of the Association of College and University Housing Officers-International. Each year, GLACUHO gives institutional awards to its four-state region to recognize outstanding efforts.

According to Ro-Anne Royer Engle, Assistant Director of Housing and Residence Life, Ball State received the award because of its cross-campus collaboration between Facilities Planning and Management, Ball State Dining, Outdoor Pursuits, SGA, BEAT and COTE.

The Residence Hall Energy Challenge was cited as a new initiative that demonstrated the University’s outstanding commitment to sustainability through a collaborative approach. The Energy Challenge is a competition among residence halls to reduce energy consumption by the highest percentage during a 4-week span each semester.

The sustainability award was announced at the GLACUHO 40th Anniversary Conference in November. Dr. Cathy Bickel, Associate Director of Housing and Residence Life, accepted the award on behalf of the university.
