EDSE 150- Basic Concepts of Secondary Education
Designed to help students make valid decisions about preparing for and functioning in teaching careers. Professionalism, job requirements, employment opportunities, secondary school curricula, and the role of secondary education within the entire educational process are discussed.

The INTASC Standards are emphasized. Teacher candidates will learn to use planning and teaching strategies that will enable them to successfully design and carry out effective instruction in their subject areas. Accordingly, teacher candidates examine different contexts that shape students' development as learners in their subject areas, such as the expectations and competencies students and teachers bring to the secondary classrooms, the social context of the classroom in which students learn, and classroom experiences and tasks designed to promote learning in their subject areas.
