Renovation Update

The Fine Arts Building renovation began in May of 2012 to add more than 10,000 square feet of new galleries to the David Owsley Museum of Art for improved art and visitor experiences. Please note the following spaces will be unavailable until the renovation is completed:

  • Brown Study Room (works on paper)
  • Ethnographic Gallery (African, Pre-Columbian, and Oceanic/Pacific art)
  • Ancient and Asian Art Galleries
  • Decorative Arts Gallery

The Owsley Museum of Art will remain open throughout the entire renovation project for all visitors and group visits. When complete, new galleries will be devoted to the art of Asia, Africa, Latin America, and Pacific. The Decorative Arts galleries will also be reinstalled.

In addition, a new Museum of Art north entrance will be constructed at the top of the stairs in place of the large Ethnographic Gallery window. A new elevator on the west side will be installed to aid visitor access.

Further renovation updates will be available on the Museum of Art's website. Any questions or concerns can be directed to

See you in the galleries!
